Movie Review #13 - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

A Movie Review by Carter Rutledge for:
Movie Synopsis:

As the Rebellion spreads its influence among people, the Galactic Empire builds a super weapon capable of destroying an entire planet. A group of rebels disobeys orders and take a shuttle to go on a mission to steal plans that hide secrets on how to destroy this weapon of mass destruction.
MPAA Rating: PG-13

The Good: Lovable characters, great Star Wars spirit, and the best space battles to date.
The Bad: Shallow story and let-downable score.

Why I Watched it:

Saw it December 15 in an IMAX theater as a birthday gift. Needless to say, it was amazing.

My Thoughts (no penny needed):

I am a HUGE Star Wars geek. This was total fan-service and I loved every second of it. Tarkin. Darth Vader. Leia. R2 &3PO. All of it was just chilling. People complain about Leia looking fake, but Tarkin was more fake then her!

All of the space battles are the best Star Wars, or any sic-fi film has ever seen! The 360 Camera technology Gareth Edwards used helped greatly. Things were a little slow starting out, and a little fast  near the end.

Michael Giacchino just didn't work here. I loved his work in The Incredibles, Planet of the Apes and Jurassic World so much. What we learned here, is that John Williams is the only one who can compose a great Star Wars score. He made the prequels better, made the originals amazing, and made The Force Awakens nostalgic.

I really, really like this movie. Not only because it is Star Wars, it just has a few flaws. And not a single movie has nothing wrong with it. And yes....

I cried.

The Characters:

Jyn Erso: Hopeful, smart and brave, but Jyn still falls under the shadow of her co-stars.

Cassian Andor: Hispanic in Star Wars... really works. His realashionship with Jyn near the end is so, so good.

K-2SO: He was funny, he was witty, but he was also to much like C-3PO.

Orson Krennic: I love his accent. I love his costume. I love his empty seat in A New Hope.

Chirrut & Baze: They are not gay. They are super cool bros.

Bodhi Rook: On my first viewing, this was my least favorite. On my second and third viewings, he was one of my favorites! His humor, his cluelessness and his persistence are amazingly acted.

Saw Gerrera: If you want to talk about a fall-on-their-face-useless character, start here. He does nothgin for the story, and dies so uselessly. He is quite nice in the animated shows, though.

Darth Vader: Yes.

My Favorite Character: Chirrut Îmmwe
My Favorite Scene: Duh. The Hallway Scene.
