Movie Review #14 - Star Wars (1977)
A Movie Review by Carter Rutledge for:
The Imperial Forces, under orders from cruel Darth Vader, hold Princess Leia hostage in their efforts to quell the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, work together with the companionable droid duo R2-D2 & C-3PO to rescue the beautiful princess, help the Rebel Alliance, and restore freedom and justice to the Galaxy.
MPAA Rating: PG
The Good: Ultra-Lovable characters, awesome score and everything awesome.
The Bad: Special edition effects, Luke+Leia romance, and some cheesy-ness.

Why I Watched it:
I can't remember my first time seeing this movie.

My Thoughts (no penny needed):
Man, I love this movie. All of the characters are lovable, the score givees me chills, and I could watch this a hundred times and still love it.
I know the lightsaber battle was cheesy, I know the costumes are sometimes cheesy. But you can't help but love this movie. If you have seen it, you most likely agree with me. It is no wonder people in 1977 made this one of the biggest movies ever.
The shots are iconic, the score a hymn, and everyone in the cast feels like your best friend. Simply put, Star Wars (A New Hope) is frankly amazing and will remain that way for years to come, and hopefully forever.

The Characters:
Luke Skywalker: Lonely, adventurous, and naive; Luke is a perfect protagonist for this film.
Leia Organa: Sassy, spunky and flirty. Her personality makes you want to slap her and kiss her at the same time. I wish George had the insight to not have her kiss Luke though...
Han Solo: Almost a criminal when we meet him, Han quickly shows his heroic side as he returns to save Luke in one of the best scenes ever.
Chewbacca: He is just kind of there in this film. He doesn't serve much purpose save for "He'll rip your arms off".
R2-D2 & C-3PO: The Laurel & Hardy of A Galaxy Far Far Away. When people ask me my favorite of the two, I explain that without their counterpart each are a boring character
Darth Vader: Menacing, dark, and evil. Darth Vader is everything a late 70's movie needed in the villain.
Grand Moff Tarkin: If you want to talk about a useless character, Tarkin fits that mold quite well. Besides keeping Vader on his leash, he does next to nothing for the story.
