Movie Review #11 - Star Wars: Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith (2005)

A Movie Review by Carter Rutledge for:

Movie Synopsis:

Three years into the Clone Wars, the Jedi rescue Palpatine from Count Dooku. As Obi-Wan pursues a new threat, Anakin acts as a double agent between the Jedi Council and Palpatine and is lured into a sinister plan to rule the galaxy.

MPAA Rating: PG-13

The Good: John Williams, crazy lightsaber & ship battles
The Bad: Acting, script, that poster^ and a boring middle.

Why I Watched it:

Once again, It's Star Wars. I do remember when this movie came out, and I wanted to see it so bad, but my mom said I couldn't.

My Thoughts (no penny needed):

The beginning third is breathtaking. The last third is tear-jerking+breathtaking. But the middle...
It is just kind of there. I can't even remember what happens.
Oh wait, just remembered. General Grevious. *makes sour face*

I feel like in the first 2 Star Wars films, Palpatine was not really hype up, he was just there. And halfway through this movie, his evil persona is just dumped on us, and on the characters.
They should have opted for a slower, more gradual reveal of who he is.
But those action scenes are awesome! The space battle in the beginning plays out like none other. The lightsaber battles at the end are great! Mace Windu gets a small spotlight (not dead!) and acting is upped a hair from Episode II. Everything fits (nearly) perfect into Episode IV, and that last shot gives me chills Every. Single. Time.

The Characters:

Anakin: Much, much better this go-round. I guess bad press reviews got Hayden to step it up a notch. *crosses fingers* Hope he's in The Last Jedi this winter!

Obi-Wan: So awesome. I love to see him stepping into the personality Sir Alec Guieness had for Obi-Wan.

Padme: Better, but still bad. Though when she dies, it's very, very sad.

Mace Windu: More screen time! Whoop! Samuel L. Jackson really goes out with a bang here! Plus, if you think about it, he is the most powerful Jedi. He beat Palpatine, where Yoda could not.

Yoda: Yoda with Chewbacca felt very, very forced. Would have loved to see Dagobah though.

Palpatine: UNLIMITED POWAH! Like I said above, I wish they had hyped him up more.

My Favorite Character: Obi-Wan
My Favorite Scene: Order 66
