Movie Review #10 - Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)

A Movie Review by Carter Rutledge for:

Movie Synopsis:

Ten years after the invasion of Naboo, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi named Count Dooku, thousands of solar systems threaten to break away from the Galactic Republic. When an assassination attempt is made on Senator Padmé Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo, twenty-year-old Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker is assigned to protect her. In the course of his mission, Anakin discovers his love for Padmé as well as his own darker side.

MPAA Rating: PG

The Good: Amazing cinematography, ship battles, score, and The Battle of Geonosis.
The Bad: Bad acting, bad effects, and overly confusing plot.

Why I Watched it:

It's Star Wars, dude. I can't remember a time when I hadn't seen this movie.

My Thoughts (no penny needed):

When this movie is awesome, it is very, very awesome. When this movie is awful, it is very, very awful.
Awful: Any love scene.
Awesome: The breathtaking Battle of Genesis.
Awful: CGI, but sometimes its good.
Awesome: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Awful: Confusing plot

So why is the plot confusing, you ask? Because this... did Cypher-Dias order the clones, or was it Dooku. Or maybe it was Palpatine? Why did Jango have to stay on Kamino, if they could just clone another clone? Why did the Separatists put them in the pit, instead of just killing them? I JUST DON'T KNOW.

But the sound design and visuals are mostly amazing. The score is one of the best for Star Wars, and I think the cinematography is my fav for the whole saga. (Last Jedi looks good too)

Basically, for every awesome moment, there is an equally awful moment. And by the way... I don't like sand.

The Characters:

Anakin: Between his non-exsistant chemistry with Padme and weird close-ups. The only time I really enjoy Anakin is when he's fighting.

Obi-Wan: Now this, this is acting people. No matter how cheesy and unbearable the actual words he is saying are, Ewan McGregor makes it work, somehow.

Padme: She's pretty. But she is an awful actress.

Mace Windu: One way to easily make this movie better would be to have more of this guy. A lot more.

The Fetts: Jango: meh. Boba: meh. Kid Boba can join the ALSC (Annoying Laughing in Space Club) Members of this club include: Kid Boba, Nien Numb, and Salacious B. Crumb.

Yoda: The best VFX in any 2002 movie. It looks straight outta Planet of the Apes or The Jungle Book (2016).

Count Dooku: Um... he was okay. His 'reveal' to be evil was underwhelming to say the least.

My Favorite Character: Obi-Wan
